YAAP August Newsletter

Dear Friends and Members,

We hope you had an enjoyable summer break. The great weather definitely provided a perfect backdrop for the two most recent YAAP events, the Summer Drinks which took place on 26 June 2018 at the Summer Stage in Vienna and the DIS40, ASAbelow40, ArbIT and YAAP Summer Retreat on 13/14 July 2018 in Berlin.

Like last year, the two events ranked very highly in terms of popularity among YAAP members thanks, first and foremost, to the great atmosphere. Drinks and leisure were the result of hard hard work though at least at the Summer Retreat where participants were very actively involved throughout the Friday workshops in making their voice heard, effectively cross-examining witnesses and applying the most recent presentation tech tools.

YAAP again is actively involved in planning autumn events for you! Next week, on 6 September 2018, the VIAC/YAAP Master Class will take place offering the workshop “The Great Legal Negotiator” held by Claudia Winkler. The seminar is also likely to be accepted by the Vienna Bar Association for mandatory education credits. Please register quickly as seats are limited - we look forward to seeing you there!

1) VIAC/YAAP Master Class on 6 September

VIAC and YAAP are holding a regular series of seminars to offer young practitioners practical insights into arbitration. Please see the upcoming Master Classes below.

2) Dreiländer-Konferenz

ASA, LIS and Arb|Aut are organizing the 6th edition of the Dreiländer-Konferenz which will take place in Vienna.

Date: 21 September 2018, 9.00 am - 6.00 pm
Venue: PARK HYATT WIEN, Am Hof 2, 1010 Wien

3) GAR Live 2018

Registration is now open for GAR Live Vienna which will be held on 19 October 2018 at the SkyLounge of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.

The programme features a keynote speech by Jörg Risse on “Poetic Prophecy: The Future of Arbitration” a panel on Settlement in Arbitration, question time on third party funding and M&A disputes, a discussion on the future of investment arbitration and the famous GAR Live debate on the motion: “This house believes, in all but exceptional cases, document production is a complete waste of time." 

Following the event, a Lifetime Award will be presented to Prof Dr Eric E. Bergsten with laudations by Prof. Daniel Girsberger and Prof. Stavros Brekoulakis.
