Dear Members and Friends,

Our Anniversary Conference will take place next Thursday. Please join us for a celebration of 15 years YAAP with a fantastic academic program led by the most distinguished young speakers from Geneva, London, Belgrade, Vaduz, Innsbruck and Vienna (scroll down for details).

On this occasion we will announce two new members to the YAAP Advisory Board. The selection process was difficult, as each single one of the thirteen applications we received was outstanding and each applicant would have without any doubt been a great addition to the YAAP Advisory Board. A great thanks to all applicants who have dedicated the time to put together their applications. The diverse mix of applicants from law firms, academia and in-house - including 8 male and 5 female, 9 Austrian based and 4 from abroad, 8 Austrian trained and 5 foreign trained - made the decision even more difficult. The current Advisory Board has elected two new members after a long, open and transparent discussion.

We are really proud to see so much interest to actively engage with YAAP. And remember: you don’t have to be an Advisory Board Member to contribute: Do you have an idea or want to organize an event? Just send us an email or speak to us at one of our upcoming events!

Yours,
Lisa & Filip

REVIEW: YAAP Round Table special – Third Party Funding: “Grill” the Funders, Vienna, 28 October 2019

Our special Round Table featured representatives from two major third party funders, Christiane Deniger (Burford) and Jonathan Barnett (Nivalion). Christiane and Jonathan answered tricky questions from moderator Leon Kopecky as well as from the floor. What is the relationship between the funder, parties and counsel in managing the dispute? Will the funder exercise influence in the way the case is pleaded? How will the funders assess the success chances of a dispute - and what will they typically look for in a case?
These issues and many more were discussed during a lively panel debate. We continued the exchange until late over snacks drinks, which were generously hosted by Burford and Nivalion.
