Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We hope you are staying safe and healthy during these extraordinary times. A few more weeks to go and 2021 will be a thing of the past – with a hopefully friendlier year ahead (less lockdowns and terrorist attacks, if we’re allowed a wish).

Meanwhile, stay tuned for our next virtual events: Our next Virtual Round Table on "White Collar Crime & Arbitration" will be held on Monday, 23 November 2020, delivered by Oliver Loksa (Hausmaninger Kletter) and Laura Nienaber (White & Case) – see below.

Also, we are delighted to share the first video of our Meet Your YAAP-colleagues series. By this initiative we want to keep introducing new members to our community in times of social distancing. This time we are happy to present to you

--- Brian Samuel Oiwoh & Clemens Treichl (Freshfields)

And for the months to come, all of you are invited to send us a short (2-3 minutes) selfie video, explaining who you are and what you do, what brought you to arbitration and what you like/dislike about it. Do add anything important to you, as long as you stay within your 2-3 minutes. Looking forward!

Take good care and stay safe,
Christian & Lisa

UPCOMING: Virtual YAAP Round Table - White-Collar Crime & Arbitration, 23 November 2020
Oliver Loksa (Hausmaninger Kletter) and Laura Nienaber (White & Case) will analyse several aspects of how white-collar crime impacts our arbitration practice. How should parties and arbitrators react in view of criminal accusations, parallel criminal proceedings or criminal judgements? And: What is the purpose of internal investigations? Will any findings obtained in the course of an internal investigation be admissible as evidence in an ensuing arbitration?

Date: Monday, 23 November 2020, 17:30 CET
Venue: See you on Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85872426697?pwd=NVpMN0prSEhLVWpqUnBVVTRYR01Udz09)

SAVE THE DATE: Vienna Arbitration Days 2021, 12 February 2021
The upcoming Vienna Arbitration Days (VAD) will be held virtually exploring the overarching topic of Construction Arbitration: Innovation and Constraints. Despite turning online, the 2021 Program allows you to participate in high-class panel discussions, inter-active sessions as well as individual virtual networking. REVIEW: YAAP Arbitration Walks & Talks: “Virtual Hearings - Potential and limitations. Fresh perspectives after some months of trial and the second wave at the door step”– 8 October 2020
Our first walk-and-talk event was a welcome break from the brave new world of webinars: Fresh air, sunshine and an easy stroll, parred with interesting exchanges with real humans on what makes virtual hearings a success and what pitfalls are to be avoided. The Walks are to be continued, once the legislator and the weather allow.

REVIEW: Virtual YAAP Round Table – GDPR and Arbitration, 13 October 2020
This webinar was packed with information on the must-knows of data protection for arbitration practitioners. We were reminded that there is, alas, no one-size-fits all solution and no exhaustive list of steps to be followed. Each arbitration is different and solutions need to be discussed, aligned and tailored for each individual case. Thanks to Gernot Fritz, Matthias Hofer and Désirée Prantl for sharing their insights.

REVIEW: YAAP Around the World: Belarus - Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in times of Political Crisis, 27 October 2020
Our first "YAAP Around the World" series had its kick off with our friends in Minsk, Belarus, featuring Valeria Dubeshka (Sorainen), Veronika Pavlovskaya (Arzinger), Dmitry Semashko (Stepanovski, Papakul & Partners), and Aliaksei Vashkevich (Sorainen). The panel discussed the current situation on the ground and its impact and implications in Belarus and CEE/CIS countries at large. We will continue travelling, stay tuned for the next destination.
