Dear Members and Friends,

The Vis Moot is around the corner and while the pleadings will be held virtually again this year, we cannot wait to see many of you in person in Vienna. We therefore invite you to the traditional annual joint YAAP-ICC YAF Young Approaches to Arbitration conference (Saturday, 9 April 2022), which will take place as a hybrid event. Two lively sessions are waiting for you: a panel on mandatory norms in international arbitration - an issue that could not be more topical these days - and a discussion on the application of the CISG in international arbitration. If you have an innovative idea that you wish to present at the conference, you can still submit your paper for the traditional "Call for Ideas" by Friday, 1 April 2022.

YAAP started into the year with an interesting in-person roundtable in March on blockchain and arbitration held by Dirk Wiegandt (HANEFELD, Hamburg) and Johannes Landbrecht (GABRIEL, Zurich) and wishes to announce the next roundtable, which will take place on 11 May 2022.

We hope to welcome many of you at the upcoming events.

Yours,
Anna & Ulrich

The traditional ICC YAF & YAAP conference “Young Approaches to Arbitration” will take place as a hybrid event this year. We aim to provide everyone with a forum to connect and see each other again and we encourage everyone join us in person in Vienna!

We will tackle the hot-button issue of whether arbitral tribunals have the duty to apply mandatory norms in arbitration also against the will of the parties and provide a fresh perspective on the multiple facets of the application of the CISG in international arbitration.

As in previous years, the traditional “Call for Ideas” is another highlight of this conference.
