There has been a lot going on behind the scenes at YAAP in the past few months. As you know, we have advertised new YAAP Advisory Board Member positions and we are very pleased to have received an overwhelming number of strong applications, which has once again shown us what a great young arbitration community we have in Austria. We will announce and celebrate the new YAAP Advisory Board Members at our next YAAP roundtable on 15 June 2023, where we will be hosting some very special guests this time. Also, we are excited to announce that the annual arbitration Summer Retreat will take place in Vienna in July and that registrations have just opened! 15 June 2023: „All-Star” YAAP Roundtable & Drinks – “Dos and Don'ts on Your Career Path to Becoming a Successful Arbitration Practitioner”
We are excited to invite you to a very special edition of our YAAP Roundtable. At this roundtable, we will not only announce the new YAAP Advisory Board Members – we also have the honour of welcoming some very special guests. Our departing YAAP Advisory Board Members Lisa Beisteiner (Partner at ZFZ), Niamh Leinwather (VIAC Secretary General) and Filip Boras (Partner at Baker McKenzie) will share their personal experiences of lessons learned on their career paths to becoming successful arbitration practitioners, discuss what they would do differently in hindsight and answer any questions you may have about establishing a firm foothold in arbitration, whether as an arbitrator, counsel or otherwise. We will get together in a relaxed atmosphere over drinks to philosophise about arbitration careers, wallow in memories and have a good time together. We hope to see many of you at this special occasion!

13-15 July 2023: Summer Retreat
This year's Summer Retreat for young international arbitration practitioners takes place in a relaxed atmosphere at Hotel Schloss Wilhelminenberg in Vienna and is dedicated to the theme of “Change”. The former imperial hunting castle Schloss Wilhelminenberg is a fairytale location surrounded by meadows, forests, and vineyards, with a 12-hectare park, a terrace and a winter garden that offers a magnificent view over Vienna. As always, the Summer Retreat is an ideal opportunity for networking and building personal relationships in the international arbitration community. 1 April 2023: ICC YAAF & YAAP Conference: Young Approaches to Arbitration
This year’s Vis Moot was finally back to its usual self after several years of COVID and YAAP and ICC YAAF had a lot of fun to welcome so many young arbitration practitioners at this year’s Young Approaches to Arbitration conference. We were able to fill the “Großer Festsaal” at University of Vienna where we enjoyed a great keynote speech by Franz Schwarz (Partner, WilmerHale) and a panel on advocacy skills in international arbitration consisting of Margarita Chatzi (Deputy Counsel, ICC), Victoria Ivasechko (Counsel, Redcliffe Partners), Roopa Mathews (Associate, Lalive) and Sam Song (Senior Associate, Squire Patton Boggs). A big thank you to Tamara Manasijevic from ICC YAAF for organising such a great event together with YAAP!
26 April 2023: Expert Cross-Examination Workshop with PwC
We are very happy to report that our workshop with PwC on cross-examination proved to be a great success. At this event, young lawyers had the rare opportunity to practice their cross-examination skills in a mock arbitration together with experts from PwC. We are thrilled to have partnered with PwC to host so many talented young lawyers at this insightful and educational event and would like to thank everyone who participated. Special thanks to our Advisory Board Member Anna Förstel-Cherng, who made the excellent cooperation between YAAP and PwC possible.
12-13 May 2023: Vienna Arbitration Days
Another recent highlight for us was the Vienna Arbitration Days 2023. They were shaped by interesting panels featuring the arbitration user’s perspective, provocative statements on the current relevance and benefits of arbitration under the theme “It takes two to waltz...”, a performance by the youth choir of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, and a champagne reception and tour at the Belvedere.
